Journalism Day (J-Day) is an annual statewide event held on the University of Missouri campus for MIPA Journalism members (advisers and students).
State Journalism Day is March 29, 2017, and will be held at Jesse Hall. Last year’s event welcomed over 1,500 high-school journalism students and advisers to the MU campus, home of the Missouri School of Journalism, the world’s first journalism school and still ranked as the No. 1 journalism school in the country.
Students competed in Write-Off contests and attended a variety of workshops and speaking presentations related to journalism skills and careers.
“I think J-day is important for students and teachers because it allows us to meet and learn from so many other people who have similar interests as we do. It also allows students to see firsthand how they can apply journalism to their lives after high school. J-day is an amazing event with amazing people and I am glad I was able to attend while I was in high school.” – Daniell Hernandez, North Kansas City High School, Class of 2012, now attending University of Missouri – Columbia
