November Photo of the Month Winners Announced

NOVEMBER WINNERS

First Place:  Kenadi Brown, Platte County High School

Singing to Flounder, senior Sam Ragone performs as Sebastian in the theatre department’s musical production of The Little Mermaid with senior Kaitlyn Seim. A lot of character work went into studying Sebastian’s crab walk, burning his legs after every show. “I’m pretty grateful that I got Sebastian, because not only did I get to sing some of the pretty iconic songs, but it was really fun to see how I could fit into the character as my own self,” Ragone said.

Judge’s Comments: This is a perfectly exposed, perfectly colored and perfectly timed photo of The Little Mermaid performance. Photographing theater can be tough, especially with colored stage lights and low lighting in general, but you nailed it–plus captured the costumes and make up beautifully.

Second Place: Zsofia Clayton, Parkway South High School

Pull to win!! With his hair flying, junior Lex Lentz tugs with all his might alongside his classmates during the Tug of War competition. The junior class won the entire Tug of War competition.

Judge’s Comments: Great exposure, great use of super fast shutter speed to capture this moment and that guy’s hair… wow! Just crop out a little of the extra space on the right and try not to cut off feet.

Third Place: Karissa Simmons, Francis Howell High School

In the first set of the state semifinal game against Lee’s Summit West, junior Avery Helms (4) hits the ball, Nov. 2 at the Show-Me Center at Southeast Missouri State University. The Vikings beat the Titans 3-0, advancing to the state championship game.

Judge’s Comments: Getting great volleyball shots is difficult thanks to quickly moving balls and challenging indoor lighting, but this turned out beautifully. Clear, no blur, plus a great moment with the ball in it. Just a tad grainy, but worth it.
