First Place: Josh Gornet, Fort Zumwalt High School
Actor Addison Keith performs on stage, Saturday, Apr. 13, 2024, in O’Fallon, Missouri. Keith got to play her dream role, The Dragon in the West Highs performance of Shrek the Musical. “I wanted to be the dragon from the start, she’s very fierce and I think she’s just misunderstood,” said Keith. Judge’s Comments: Great composition and use of rule of thirds. The lighting is great and I even appreciate that we can see the light in the background. Her expression is perfect as are the people behind her. Nice shot–the stage is tough!
Second Place: Sam Enlund, Webster Groves High School

Judge’s Comments: Great job capturing a quick moment in crystal clear detail. Love the facial expressions and use of rule of thirds. Try not to cut off feet next time!
Third Place: Leland Samuel, Staley High School
With a high five for his teammates, senior Lukas Wilson runs from the dugout during the team walkout. At home games, announcers introduce each player. “I was very excited to get the boys up and going. It was a pretty awesome feeling,” senior John McGowan said. // Photo by Leland Samuel (Leland Samuel (Staley))
Judge’s Comments: I’m a big fan of a sports feature photo and this one is a great angle on a fun moment. I love the look of determination on his face. Just be careful with too much space above/below but I’m glad to see you actually turned the camera… that seems to be rare these days.
Junior Sam Nigro works to change the oil on his car as part of a demonstration hosted by the Automotive Club during Activity Period on April 3, 2024. The demonstration served a couple of purposes. First, club members hoped the public nature of it, combined with the donuts offered, would create more interest to help grow the club, which was just started this school year. Second, it also gave a chance for members to build basic mechanical skills, which the club moderator has told Prep News is a way to provide a valuable experience for them as well.
