The MIPA Photo of the Month theme for January was “resist” and could be interpreted as it fit your school and student body.

Overall comments from the judge: The photographers understood the importance of lighting and how it affects mood. Also, the winning photos showed the power of using the viewfinder to help shape the storytelling. Remember, angle and cropping are important, which includes monitoring the backgrounds and adjusting the lens accordingly. Also, captions should tell a complete story without being redundant or biased. They should fill in any blanks to help the reader see the connection between the photo and the missing pieces of the story and, in this case, the contest theme.
