Thursday’s Tips No. 10

#1. My students entered the blogging world two years ago. We are starting year three of having their own blog pages. They often are at a loss for words. What do I write about? One year a kid literally blogged about not knowing what to blog about! Lists like these (and you may want to preview them based on the climate of your school) help my students out SO MUCH! http://teens.lovetoknow.com/High_School_Journal_Topics  and  http://fatmumslim.com.au/sweet-ideas-50-things-to-blog-about/ Survive!

#2. Love this “Survival Guide” – yes, it’s for yearbook, but it has tips that can help any Journalism Adviser. http://yearbooks.lifetouch.com/files/content/files/inspire_fall2011_unwrittenrules.pdf Come TOGETHER… right NOW… (name that lyric and band!) CVGbanner4

Tip #3. Convergence. I discuss this so much with my students… and share this site/area of Mizzou’s Convergence Journalism program to help drive home the point. It is here. It is NOW. Love the “student work” section! http://convergence.journalism.missouri.edu/ Just CLICK it! Oh SNAP!

Tip #4. Improve your DSLR work! Simple tips to assist with the process from a pro. http://susantuttlephotography.com/dslr-photography-tips/ Philo WHO?

Tip #5. I actually stress the importance of knowing history… the how something was created and the why… and the who! Many people cannot tell you the how, the why, or the who of the invention of TV. However, a LOT of my former broadcast students (who paid attention) can! I love this film. We watch it, discuss it, and really dig into the flurry of activity, backstabbing, big money, and just the whole crazy story of the invention of Television. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/technology/bigdream/abprogram.html#tv
