Thursday Tips No. 3

#1. Believe it or not, I did print journalism. For a long time. All through HS, college, student teaching, and approx 13 some odd years of advising: yearbook. I love looking at different design trends and themes, etc to this day even though I have had a couple of years off from it. Herff Jones has an AWESOME online collection to browse through for ideas –> https://www.yearbooks.biz/?event=Showcase.Main

#2. I also remember how important that first yearbook deadline was… how it set the tone and could make or break the year. This blog entry really outlines this subject -> http://theyearbookladies.com/10-tips-to-navigate-your-first-yearbook-deadlinebohsphome#3. NSPA Best of the High School Press – what a great reference for ideas – design, photography, YB/NP/TV, subjects to cover, etc. Check it out! –> http://www.studentpress.org/bohsp/index.html

#4. One thing that makes for an EXCELLENT Journalism Educator is the power of SHARING. Don Goble does it well. I enjoy seeing his students’ work, the lessons he shares at JEA/NSPA Nationals, what he does on twitter (follow him!) and his GobleMediaNews… Check out all the things he covers/shares, etc. to improve us at J Educators and our students –> http://paper.li/dgoble2001/1325697615
