Share the LOVE for our February Photo of the Month Contest!

Whether you’re single, taken, or it’s complicated, we hope you’ll participate in February’s Photo of the Month contest with the theme of “Love is in the Air.”

All you have to do:

1)      Choose THE BEST PHOTO someone on your staff has taken in the month of February.

  1. It should fit this month’s theme: Love is in the Air
  2. ONLY ONE PHOTO PER PUBLICATION

2)      Submit using our easy online submission form (all you need is the photo file and a caption)

3)      Submit entries NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, FEB.28 at 11:59 p.m.

Winners will be announced by March. 10 and will be featured on MIPA’s social media and website. The school with the most winners at the end of the school year will earn a Pizza Party from MIPA!

Miller hit the bucket, but the Rebels never could get their offense going as the Rebels fell 84-30. With the loss for Richland and the win for the Bearcats, both teams’ records now stand at 4-2. The Rebels and Bearcats are both scheduled to play in the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament next week, with Dexter seeded in the No. 1 spot and Richland coming in at No. 12.

Wilbur the pig, played by senior Anna Wright, grasps for freedom from the Zimmerman's oven during her performance in "Charlotte's Web." This was Wright's favorite moment in the play. "I'm picturing running from an intruder or just like a monster," Wright says about what goes through her head during the scene. "Theater is important to me because it is a way to get a bunch of people with nothing to do in common in the same room to laugh together, to cry together, and teach moral lessons right in front of their eyes. And it's really fun."

Noah Garthe looking through the crowd on the dance floor at the Homecoming dance. The dance attracted more than 1,400 students to it as it returned in the large gym after last year's dance was held on the football field.

September Photo of the Month Winner announced
Lead actress, junior Aniya Sparrow, who portrayed Emma in The Spotlight Players production of "Emma!: A Pop Musical," sings the high note of "Man I Feel Like a Woman" by Shania Twain. "Emma!" is a jukebox musical featuring many well-known songs that keep the audience engaged. "I've been in many shows before, but this production has by far been the hardest I've ever worked and I think it's really paid off. Everyone put so much effort into their character and the technical aspects and that's what made the production so successful. I'm so grateful that I got the opportunity to play Emma, and I'll never forget how much fun I had or the feeling of being on the stage playing this character," Sparrow said.

"In a tearful embrace during the Falcon Brigade’s Senior Night Oct. 25, senior Leah Folkman hugs junior Salma Castillo. At halftime, seniors were recognized and stepped out of their shoes to make way for underclassmen. “It was definitely an emotional feeling,” Castillo said. “I have a lot of friends that are seniors this year, since I’m a junior this year, and watching them have them their last marching season and knowing mine was coming up, too, was a sad feeling, but also a joyous feeling because I’m glad I got to be there in that moment with them.”

Continuing the tradition, senior Blaize Vaughn and sophomore Dawson Smith carry the flags as they tear through the banner with the rest of their varsity football team. "I am most excited to finally make a name for ourselves this season," Vaughn said. "It is no secret that we've struggled the last few years, but we are now a new team, a new brotherhood, and a new family." This game against Warsaw on Aug. 30 was the Cardinal's first of the season.
September Photo of the Month Winners Announced
On September 8th, 2023, The Springfield community mourned the loss of a beloved teacher at Kickapoo High School, Ms. Barron. She was cheer coach who was loved by many and was described by many people as a "bright light in everyone's life". At that Friday's football game, the cheer squad organized a balloon release in her honor. As expected, the stand were packed out with supporters. Our Cheer and Poms teams wore pink matching t-shirts that said "Momma B" on the back and "Be The Sunshine" on the front, which was a saying she constantly said to everyone in her life. Senior Joslyn Magers, a cheer team member who was very close to Ms. Barron, proudly shows off her shirt to the crowd.

Students show their support for junior Ralph Yarl by participating in a “unity walk” April 18. Yarl was shot twice on April 13 when he accidentally went to the wrong house, attempting to pick up his siblings. “I’m really proud of our student body for coming out to support Ralph,” said senior Cayla Palmer, the president of Staley’s Black Student Union, the group who planned the walk. “At the end of the day, this whole unity walk is for Ralph, to support our fellow Falcon. We stand with him and support him.”

After Beating Oak Park High School 56-49 in the Class 6 District 8 Championship March 6, the boys basketball team celebrates their fourth straight district championship. The team previously beat Oak Park 64-36 on Dec. 15, but the team knew Oak Park would be a harder matchup now. “We knew that was probably the toughest team we were going to play all year,” senior guard Jared Lee said. “When we won, it was just a crazy feeling that we got that done because a lot of people didn’t think we could.”

Alexander Hutchcraft (11) wrestles during the state finals. During the match many technical violations were not called leaving coaches angry. “Wrestling really defines who I am today. It’s physically built me and mentally pushes you,” said Hutchcraft.
